SAD strikes during the winter months and is associated with reduced exposure to sunlight. People with SAD suffer from irritability, lethargy, carbohydrate craving and weight gain, increased sleep and general sadness. Scientists believe that SAD is caused by a defect in the hypothalamus, the gland responsible for regulating responses to external stimuli. Stress may also playa role in SAD. Certain factors seem to put people at risk for SAD. Women are four times more likely to suffer from SAD are women. SAD, although it occurs in people of all ages, even those between 20 and 40 seem to be more vulnerable. Some families seem to be at risk. And the people who live in the northern states in the U.S. are most at risk are those living in the southern states. In winter, the fewer hours of sunshine in northern than in southern regions. It is estimated that 10 percent of the population in the northern states as Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin and experience ED, with less than 2 percent of those living in southern states such as Florida and New Mexico are suffering from this disorder. There are some simple but effective treatments for SAD. The main advantage seems to be light therapy, the patient is exposed to light that simulates sunlight. After being exposed to this light every day, 80 percent of patients experience relief from their symptoms within four days. Other forms of treatment for SAD is the change in diet (consumption of foods rich in complex carbohydrates), increased exercise, stress, techniques, sleep restriction (limiting the number of hours of sleep over a period of 24 hours), psychotherapy and antidepressants. Perhaps the most frightening of all mental disorders is schizophrenia, a disease that affects about 1 percent of the US population. Schizophrenia is characterized by alterations of the senses(including auditory and visual hallucinations); the inability to sort out incoming stimuli and to make appropriate responses; an altered sense of self; and radical changes in emotions, movements, and behaviors. Victims of this disease often cannot function in society. For decades, scientists believed that schizophrenia was an environmentally provoked form of madness. They blamed abnormal family interactions or early-childhood traumas. Since the mid-1980s, however, when magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) began to allow scientists to study brain function more closely, scientists have recognized that schizophrenia is a biological disease of the brain. It has become evident that the brain damage involved occurs very early in life, possibly as early as in the second trimester of fetal development. However, the disease most commonly has its onset in late adolescence. Schizophrenia is treatable but not curable at present. Treatments usually include some combination of hospitalization, medication, and supportive psychotherapy. For depressed patient may use natural supplement for depression which is helpful for them. . Even though the environmental theories of schizophrenia have been discarded in favor of biological theories, a stigma remains attached to the disease. Families of schizophrenics often experience anger and guilt associated with misunderstandings about the causes of the disease. They often need help in the form of information, family counseling, and advice on how to meet the schizophrenic’s needs for shelter, medical care, vocational training, and social interaction. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) A type of depression that occurs in the winter months, when sunlight levels are low. Schizophrenia A mental illness with biological origins that is characterized by irrational behavior, severe alterations of the senses(hallucinations), and, often, an inability to function in society.

The American Heritage Dictionary describes depression as being â??a psychiatric disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, anhedonia, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness, and thoughts of death. â?
Depression is the common cold of mental disorders â?? most people will be affected by depression in their lives either directly or indirectly, through a friend or family member. Confusion is commonplace about depression, for example, about what depression exactly is and what makes it different from just feeling down.
The facts
If you are depressed, you may have feelings of extreme sadness that can last for a long time. These feelings are severe enough to interfere with your daily life, and usually last for weeks, or months, rather than days.
Depression can affect people of any age, including children. Studies have shown that 2% of teenagers in the UK, are affected by depression.
Symptoms
generally, the symptoms of depression include:
â?¢ Feeling sad, hopeless and despairing
â?¢ A loss of interest and pleasure in normal activities
â?¢ Loss of appetite or weight
â?¢ Loss of sex drive
â?¢ Sleeping problems, such as an inability to get to sleep or early waking
Types of Depression
Major Depression
When you hear the term clinical depression, it merely means the depression is severe enough to require treatment. When a person is badly depressed during a single severe period, he or she can be said to have had an episode of clinical depression. More severe symptoms mark the period as an episode of major depression (also known as unipolar depression and major depressive disorder). Many mental health experts say the key to judging this gradation lies in the amount of change a person undergoes in his or her normal patterns along with a loss of interest and a lack of pleasure in them. An almost-daily tennis player, for instance, who began to break her court dates frequently, or a regular bridge player who lost interest in weekly games, might be edging into an episode of major depression. The more severe the depression, the more it is likely to affect its sufferer’s life.
Dysthymia is another mood disorder. People who have it may feel mildly depressed on most days over a period of at least two years. They have many symptoms resembling major depression, but with less severity.
Symptoms of depression may surface with other mood disorders. They include seasonal major depression (also known as seasonal affective disorder), postpartum depression, and bipolar disorder.
Atypical Depression
We think of depression as one thing. It’s not. In this in-depth article, leading depression experts tell WebMD about the many forms of depression.
Psychotic
Psychotic depression is a less common type of depression and its symptoms include an even more severely depressed mood, more severe psychomotor disturbance, and psychotic symptoms (either delusions or hallucinations), and over-valued guilt ruminations. Psychotic depression has a very low spontaneous remission rate. It responds only to physical treatments (such as antidepressant drugs).
Cyclothymic disorder
Cyclothymic disorder is when a person has mild and alternating mood swings of elation and depression occurring over a long time period. Because the mood swings are mild, and the elation is often enjoyable, frequently people with cyclothymic disorder do not seek medical help.
The periods of elation and depression can last for lengthy periods, such as a few months. Often, a person with cyclothymic disorder has a relative with bipolar disorder, or they may develop bipolar disorder themselves.

There are many different types of depression. Depression can take many forms, and so many health professionals use a number of different terms when talking about depression. Seasonal affective disorder, clinical depression and bipolar depression are all commonly diagnosed types of depression. What really causes a lot of confusion when someone is diagnosed with depression is that it can often overlap with other diseases. Circumstances such as abuse or eating disorders can be confused with depression, and can do some form of depression rather difficult to diagnose. The following are some very common forms of depression.
You will hear the term major depressive disorder, when you meet one of the depressive symptoms that are severe enough to require treatment. For example, say you are very active at your local gym, but has experienced some type of severe emotional trauma and begin to avoid the gym at all costs. It is very likely that this would be an attack of depression.
Another of the main types of depression is bipolar depression (also known as manic depression). Bipolar depression is widely recognized as someone with experience of being too happy, then suddenly become very depressed. Many doctors believe that bipolar depression is an imbalance in the brain, which can often be successfully treated with medication.
One of the main types of depression that women are known to be suffering from post-partum depression. Doctors have found that many women suffer from postpartum depression has already experienced some form of depression before. Most women who go through childbirth feel bad the first few days. But those who can not take out the feelings of depression may experience in months if not years, if not treated.
Of the many types of depression, a subtype of depression is a common seasonal depression. This form of depression appear to be related to how people react to the amount of sunlight available for them every day. Light therapy using special lights is a common treatment for those suffering from seasonal depression.
A very serious form of many different types of depression and psychotic depression. Those who suffer from psychotic depression often hear voices in his head, in addition to having visual hallucinations. People who suffer from this need to have someone to help them get treatment soon. Most patients are unable to think rationally, and thus in danger of harming themselves or others. Psychotic depression affects roughly 15% of people suffering from depression.
People who seem to constantly suffer from a mild form of depression may be suffering from dysthymia. People suffering from dysthymia may also experience a period of depression, the most severe form of depression that leads to a need for close medical monitoring and aggressive treatment.
Another of the many different types of depression that often affects women is atypical depression. This form of depression is often characterized by experiencing things like panic attacks, eating disorders, sleep disorders. People suffering from atypical depression feel depressed for some time, feel better and then feel worse. Atypical depression is very common in the younger years of a person, and if not treated will follow them into adulthood.
Never mind that one of the many different types of depression may suffer from, to know the difference between them is the best way to get the best possible treatment. When you know which is the best cure you know the best way to combat all the different types of depression that you might be suffering from.

There are other theories as a cause of depression is due to genetics. It is believed that both the family and their behavior has a predisposition to depression. There are many studies and research that has shown family members who suffer from depression have genetic heritage that is very different from families who are affected by depression. A depression is a mental difference is exemplified by a pessimistic sense of inadequacy. A person who often suffer from feelings of sadness and grief, changes in mood, hopelessness, feelings of low self-esteem, guilt, self-pity and loneliness.
Depression is not just a grief, a temporary situation, but a persistent and pervasive feeling of sadness and hopelessness that is often associated with weight loss or gain, sleep disturbances, constipation, decreased sexual function and feelings of remorse or guilt. It also leads to withdrawal from personal contact, psychomotor retardation and agitation continued. Different types of depression are: Major DepressionPostpartum or postnatal DepressionBipolar disorder or Manic DepressionCyclothymic DisorderDysthymic DisorderSeasonal affective disorder
One person in 10 suffers from this disorder. There are many causes of depression. Some types of depression seem to run in families for generations, suggesting a biological vulnerability. This seems to be the case with severe depression and bipolar depression.
Went Depression Even if the depression is now known to have serious effects if it persists for a long time, are the real causes of depression are not well defined. It is possible that depression is due to a number of reasons that combine to give the feeling of helplessness and inability to cope. These reasons may include factors both internally and externally. It was also noted that changes in brain structure or brain may be one cause of depression. So while there is no evidence that brain function or genetic make people be predisposed to depression, there is not enough research evidence to suggest that this would be the case. Humor and Stress Disorder Depression is a serious disease that affects the lives of not only patients but also their families. Anyone can suffer from depression, young or old, man or woman. Most of the causes of mood disorders and anxiety disorders are still unknown and neuropsychiatric are complex. But it is known that stress is a risk factor for the emergence of many psychiatric disorders. A strong genetic predisposition is often accused of mental illness, as we have seen that depression runs in families. But there is no evidence to show that environmental impact can cause an increased sensitivity. For example, stress early in life contribute to major risk factors for later development of depression. Stressful events later in life, such as loss of family, divorce or financial problems can also cause a significant increase in depression.

Depression is an emotional disorder that includes a number of these diseases. Some features are the same in different types of depression, but the manner in which these diseases affect a patient’s life is very different. To find the right treatment, you must understand and know the different types of this disease. Depending on the intensity of symptoms, duration of symptoms and specific causes, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases are made. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), a publication of the American Psychiatric Association, describes the symptoms of different types of depression or emotional disturbances. Genetic and biochemical factors play an important role in causing depression. Environmental, psychological, social factors and stress are just as responsible. Women suffering from severe depression, at least two times compared with men. Common symptoms of depression are irritability, feelings of despair and sadness, social isolation, changes in sleep patterns and appetite, fear of rejection, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. Suicidal Tendencies may also develop. None of these diseases are caused by any drug or drugs. Among the major emotional or mental disorders are major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder and manic-depressive or bipolar disorder. Major depressive disorder or clinical depression is a symptom of time each day for at least two weeks. These symptoms may be depressed or sad mood, lack of interest or pleasure in activities, changes in weight and appetite, sleep disturbance, fatigue, a constant tension in the mind and a sense of meaninglessness. Many people who suffer from the disease attempt suicide. People who suffer from dysthymia or dysthymic disorder had a sad state of mind constantly for two years, but is less severe than depression. You may notice a change in weight and appetite, difficulty sleeping, feelings of hopelessness and difficulty concentrating. Bipolar disorder occurred periods of mania and depression. These exchanges can be quite rapid. A manic episode consists of a very happy or sad mood that lasts one week. Other symptoms include too presumptuous, insomnia, talkativeness, distraction and engagement in risky behaviors such as sexual adventures or expenditure control. Sometimes this condition can be quite serious to warrant a hospital to prevent harm to self or others. Among other types of depression is the post-partum depression (which occurs after a child), seasonal affective disorder (a disease that occurs at a certain time of the year), depression, anxiety (panic attacks and social phobia), atypical depression ( a temporary improvement in mood), chronic depression (SAD mood lasts for about two years), double depression (a person suffering from dysthymia and major depression is one) and endogenous depression (SAD without reason). Treatment of all types of depression depends on the severity of symptoms and patient choice. The usual methods of treatment are antidepressants, psychotherapy or a combination of both. Psychotherapy is used to treat mild cases of depression. Severe depression may need both treatments. Medications help to get relief from physical ailments and therapy teaches effective methods to solve problems. Sometimes it is necessary to continue with both drugs and therapy sessions to prevent recurrence of depressive symptoms.

Did you know there are two types of Depression glass? Well, the 1st type of Depression glass was actually used as a “premium” to get people to buy wares back during the Depression era. So, you would find these in soap boxes or let’s say cereal boxes, or maybe banks or stores would give these out as premiums to get people to buy their products or to draw people into their stores. Now, the 2nd area of Depression glass is called “Elegant Depression glass”, that’s these pieces right over here. Now these are alittle bit slightly later let’s say maybe the 1940’s and 50’s, and that’s when the glass was made just a bit better and was marketed at a higher price and wasn’t used as a premium anymore. These 1st pieces right in here, these clear ones…this pattern is called “Pretzel”, it’s one of my favorites. You don’t see a ton of these pieces, but when you do it makes a really nice collection. These pieces don’t sell for alot of money… they sell for $5 to $8, to maybe $10 a piece, so it’s a very affordable pattern. Then over here…this one is “Blue Bubble”, and this cup & saucer would sell for say $6 to $8. Then down here in the front…this one is called “Cube” or “Cubist”…right here, this nice little pink cream & sugar, and this is about a $10 – $12 pair. Now, when we get over into the Elegant Depression glass…right over here… this is Fostoria “American”. Notice that it is very similar to what I just showed you in the Cube pattern… it’s pretty close, but the glass in the Cube or Cubist is not the quality of the Fostoria “American”…much brighter, much clearer here. This an $185, pedestal base, 16″ American “fruit bowl”, a very nice piece…unfortunately on the internet right now you can this for $80 to $100. Then down here this is Heisey…Heisey “Thistle” pattern, this is a 2 piece mayo (or sauce), and will sell for let’s say someplace in the neighborhood of $25 to $35, but books for around $40 to $50! Ok, for this grouping over here the regular Depression glass, you’re probably going to want to buy yourself a “regular” Depression glass book. So that then you can identify the patterns, identify the pieces, and then find out what the book prices are.

Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses with 10-15% of people suffering from depression at some stage in their lifetime. The general symptoms of depression include irritability, difficulty to concentrate, feelings of guilt or helplessness, reduced appetite, anxiety, loss of interest in activities and personal appearance, difficulty sleeping, difficulty getting up in the morning, constant tiredness, lack of energy, changes in weight and headaches.
Depression is a form of what is known as a mood or affective, disorder, because it is primarily concerned with a change in mood. Depression is a very complex illness. No-one really knows for certain what causes depression, and everyone’s experience of depression is different.
Winter Depression (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
This is very common in countries which have cold, cloudy winters and little daylight or sunshine. I used to live in England and did suffer a from this. Now I live in Turkey and the difference is incredible. Sometimes the weather is fantastic – sunny and warm even in winter! It does affect your mood but everybody is different, if you are very sensitive to weather change you may suffer from this.
Pregnancy Depression
Although pregnancy is normally a period of great joy, about ten percent (10%) of pregnant women experience prolong periods of great sadness. Although hormones are a factor in pregnancy depression it is not the lone cause. Dysthymia
Dysthmyia is a condition that sufferers don’t even know they have depression, it is just a daily part of their lives and always has been. People suffering from Dysthmyia are people that are simply sad, blue, always depressed but for them it is completely normal and are not aware of it. They go through life feeling unimportant, frightened, dissatisfied and simply don’t enjoy life.
Bipolar depression (or manic depression) includes both high and low mood swings, and a variety of other significant symptoms not present in other types of depression.
Seasonal Affective Disorder has symptoms that are seen with any major depressive episode. It is the recurrence of the symptoms during certain seasons that is the hallmark of this type of depression.
Non-melancholic Depression
In this case the depression is not melancholic, or, put simply, not primarily biological. Instead, it has to do with psychological causes and is very often linked to stressful events in a person’s life, alone, or in conjunction with the individual’s personality style. Non-melancholic depression is the most common of the three types of depression. Non-melancholic depression has a high rate of spontaneous remission because it is often linked to stressful events in a person’s life. Non-melancholic depression responds well to different sorts of treatments (such as psychotherapies, antidepressants and counselling), but the treatment selected should respect the cause (eg stress, personality style).

Part of manic-depressive Disorder (also called bipolar disorder), the two major known types of depression are major depression and dysthymia. Both types of depression can be easily distinguished from each other, although inter-type episodes, especially depression in patients with dysthymia, often experienced. Yes, what are the differences between these two types of depression?
Depression
It could be argued that major depression is a mental illness as a layman would associate with the word “depression”. As the disease its name suggests, this is the case that patients with this type of depression shows many or all of the classic signs of depression in its most severe. These symptoms include a change in the natural rhythm of sleep leading to excessive sleepiness and / or difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, motivation and guidance for simple tasks and those who had previously performed by the patient (often unexplained) deep sadness, anxiety episodes, inability to meet and entertain people, including close friends and relatives, a general lack of self-esteem, and thoughts of potentially strong terminal illness, death and suicide. Major depression can occur as a single catastrophic event often associated with a so-called “event-life”, as well as the death of a close friend, relative or neighbor or an accident resulting in permanent disability. In these cases it may overtake me after appropriate treatment, usually through the combined application of anti-depressants and psychotherapy, not to reappear. But in many cases, depressive episodes happen without a good life even if some external trigger event can usually be identified. How difficult it is for her Dysthymia usually the patient is still able to live their lives and continue their work (even if the cost of his large stake), whereas a person suffering from depression can not leave his bed in the morning. In other words, the patient Dysthymia is not working properly – the more depressed patient might not work at all. However, the downside of that, instead Dysthymia depression that the former is a chronic disease that requires treatment can be maintained for the duration of a patient. In addition, Dysthymia patients often experience one or more episodes of major depression Dysthymia on top of their illness during their lifetime.
While depression and Dysthymia are closely related but different types of depression have in common is that both types of depression can be treated with great success. Depression is the number of a mental illness in the Western world, with an increasing number of patients. Fortunately, there are many different types of depression medications and other treatments for depression exist today that are effective and the aim is to reduce or even treat depression. Among the treatments for depression prescription anti depressants are by far the most common. Given the lack of guidance for knowledge among many depressed patients about what these drugs actually do and what they can expect when you take them a review of these types of depression medication is well warranted. In principle, distinguish four types of depression medication, but no prescription treatments for depression are not directly involved in one of four categories: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and serotonin / norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors ( SNRIs).
All types of depression medicine has much in common in terms of their mode of action. That all work, raise the level of neurotransmitters in the brain. In addition to all types of depression medication start to have a positive effect on the depressed patient after a treatment period of several days a week. They must also be taken continuously over the past few months and sometimes years before that drug levels can be reduced or the medicine can no longer required by the patient. Although the effect of antidepressants on neurotransmitter levels is well documented, how they actually work to lower depression is not fully known. Some theories suggest that high levels of neurotransmitters caused by anti-depressants over time lead to a downregulation of receptors for neurotransmitters, which have a positive effect. Others believe that anti-depressants also have positive long-term effects, such as neurogenesis or altered gene expression patterns. Whatever the exact causes of anti-depressant effects of these types of treatment for depression, which, of course, work in many, but certainly not all, cases of depression, as has been shown in several clinical studies. Consequently, in conjunction with psychotherapy, antidepressants are the treatment of depression choice for most doctors. I’m all kinds of medicines called depression is also known to produce tolerance, leading to the need to increase the dose or switching to another treatment of depression. Otherwise, the withdrawal often seen when the patient is taken off the drug, leading to a dependence on long-term use of drugs.
All in all the classic types of depression medication have their merits. On the other hand, because of the risk of side effects, induction of tolerance and the potential danger of creating dependence on drugs such treatment of depression should be taken seriously and never without the guidance and supervision of a physician. Moreover, depressed patients are generally working to improve his condition by taking drugs, too.
